Properties:
Colorless or yellowish fuming liquid with pungent smell. It appears red yellow when dissolved in chlorine or phosphorus pentachloride. Hydrolyze when exposed to the moist air and generate phosphoric acid and hydrogen chloride with white smoke. Decompose and release a lot of heat and hydrogen chloride gas with water and alcohol. Irritative to eyes and corrosive.

Application:
Mainly used in pharmaceutical, dye intermediate, plasticizer and phosphate ester. Also used as chlorating agent, organic synthesis catalyst, fire retardant, surfactant, and pesticide intermediate. In recent years, high purity POCL3 is used in optical fiber production.
