Trioxsalen CAS NO.3902-71-4

Trioxsalen is a furanocoumarin and a psoralen derivative. It is obtained from several plants, mainly Psoralea corylifolia. Like other psoralens it causes photosensitization of the skin.               

Trisoralen (Trioxsalen)is the first synthetic psoralen compound made available to the medical profession. It possesses greater activity than Methoxsalen1,2,3,4 yet the LD50 of (Trioxsalen) is six times that of Methoxsalen. The chemical name for this drug is (4,5', 8- Trimethylpsoralen).                             

• Trioxsalen belongs to the group of medicines called psoralens

• It is used along with ultraviolet light (found in sunlight and some special lamps) in a treatment called psoralen plus ultraviolet light A (PUVA) to treat vitiligo, a disease in which skin color is lost. Trioxsalen may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor

• Trioxsalen was available only with your doctor's prescription

• Although this use is not included in product labeling, trioxsalen is  also used in certain patients with the Psoriasis medical condition
